Practices
NCAWPA has both dragon boat and outrigger competitive teams. Weather permitting, members of these teams can be found on the water honing their skills throughout the year. If competition isn't for you, the recreational paddler can take advantage of the various opportunities to practice without making a commitment to compete. Paddling is both fun and a good workout. All paddlers are welcome to come to the Thursday night barbeques - just bring something to share!

Dragon Boating: In order to give everyone an opportunity to participate at a their own comfort level, dragon boat practices have been divided into three categories:

  1. Technique - open to everyone; individual focus and attention to timing, form and stroke dynamics
  2. Advanced - open to paddlers who a techniques coach has approved as having mastered the basic skills
  3. Performance - paddlers invited by the head coach to participate in highly competitive dragon boat races

Outriggers: Outrigger practices have been divided into men's, women's and coed practices. Please note that the Monday evening practice is open to all who wish to paddle in an outrigger - novice or experienced.
