DC Dragons

DC Dragons is the original dragon boat racing team in the DC area, formed in 1992. We are a co-ed team of paddlers and come from all levels of experience that range in age across multiple generations.
Within the DC Dragons team, we have multiple programs. While we all practice together, we separate based on the races we attend.

DC Dragons Club Program
The Club Program blends the community and competitive aspects of NCAWPA. This fun-loving group welcomes anyone with an interest in paddling at all levels and a passion for team activities.
  • Practice expectations: ~3 times per week

DC Dragons Performance
The Performance program focuses primarily on the competitive aspects of dragon boating. This program is comprised of our most motivated and experienced members, who must try out to earn a seat on the roster for a given race.
  • Practice expectations: 4 or more times a week

Team USA

DC Dragons has a long history of sending athletes to compete on Team USA for the IDBF World Championships. Our athletes have been selected to Team USA across all genders and age categories, from the U18 to the Senior C divisions.
  • In 2017, NCAWPA sent 15 athletes to compete in the 13th IDBF World Championships in Kunming, China.
  • In 2019, NCAWPA sent 17 athletes to compete in the 14th IDBF World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand
