NCAWPA MembershipAnyone interested in dragon boat/outrigger canoe paddling can show up to our teams' practices to try out the sport. Please contact the respective team, so we know you're coming.
Our general policy is "first three are free," meaning you may attend three practices with a team before we ask you to consider officially joining the club. Once you join the club, you may practice with whichever teams you would like. Membership benefits Regardless of your primary team affiliation, NCAWPA members enjoy the following benefits:
Membership Responsibilities Each member is required to volunteer for at least 2 independent events or activities during each season. (Members can meet the community service requirement by volunteering regularly for the variety of work opportunities offered by NCAWPA and the Anacostia Community Boathouse Association (ACBA), of which NCAWPA is a founding member.) Abide by the Code of Conduct and all club policies pertaining to the practices, boats, safety, etc. (Note: your membership may be revoked if you do not abide by the policies of NCAWPA.) Membership Fees Annual membership varies by age and team:
As a nonprofit organization, NCAWPA relies solely on volunteers and members to run its operations. Membership fees allow us to maintain the Anacostia Community Boathouse, our equipment, and related costs. However, we never turn anyone away because of inability to afford our membership fees. We pride ourselves in being able to accommodate youth members and assist members with unique financial circumstances. Special accommodation can be made on a case-by-case basis; contact your membership coordinator to discuss.
